Terms and Conditions

Please read these booking conditions carefully, they are an important part of your contract with Tread Softley.

These conditions of booking and information, set out the terms of your contract with Tread Softley.

Section one. Booking & Payment.

A deposit must be taken at the time of booking to reserve your place. The balance of the price must be paid four weeks before the start of the trip.

If you book within the balance due period you must pay the full trip price at the time of booking.

If the balance is not paid in time we reserve the right to cancel your trek and retain your deposit.

Section two. Changes to bookings.

Once you have made your booking, it may be possible to make changes. If you want to transfer to another trek or you wish to change departure date, we will do our best to satisfy your requirements.

These alterations may also incur a fee. Do be aware it may not always be possible to make the changes you desire as it may affect the minimum numbers required to make the trek feasible, in which case the original booking will remain unless you cancel it and cancellation charges will then apply.

If after your booking has been confirmed you are unavoidably prevented from proceeding and wish to transfer your confirmed booking to another suitable person, you can do so, provided that this is not later than the day on which the balance of your holiday is due. In instances where arrangements are already in place, this may not be possible without loss of deposit. You, as transferor of your trip and the transferee shall be jointly and severally liable to us for the payment of the balance due.

Section Thirteen: Additional terms and conditions for all our guided walking trips as detailed on our booking forms:

Long distance walking and mountain walking are both activities which come with possible risks. I am experienced and qualified mountain Leader and will do my best to minimise that risk.

The mountain Leader qualification is awarded through the national governing body of climbing, hill walking and mountaineering in Scotland called the MLT. The qualification can only be given after an intense 5/6 day assessment covering all aspects of mountain walking including emergency situations, advanced navigation, expedition skills, river crossings and rope work. I was trained and assessed at Glenmore Lodge, the Scottish National Outdoor Training Centre, which is recognised internationally as a centre of excellence.

I am a full member of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.

I am a full member of the The Mountain Training Association (MTA)

I have a current and valid first aid qualification.

I have a current and valid P.G.V. certificate.

Changes to itinerary/Cancellations:

All of our treks and mountain days are subject to changes and cancellations. This will be at the discretion of you guide who will be performing dynamic risks assessments through-out your trip. Your trip maybe altered due to any reason, including the following:

Weather, tree felling, hunting, military operations, your trip may be changed or cancelled.

This is not an exclusive list and other factors may contribute to a change/cancelation in itinerary.

In the unlikely event that your trip should be changed or cancelled due to any of the above no refund will be given.

Your responsibility as a member of a led group and our responsibility to you.

This is a guided group trek; therefore groups are expected to stay as a group during the walk.

The pace will be matched to the group’s ability with the slower members being able to fully participant each day.

Should you decide to leave the group at any point this is against our personal group separation policy and in doing so you will be voluntarily leaving the guided trek until such time you are once again walking with the group.

This includes walking off in front of the group or taking any alternative route to the guide and group. During anytime you choose to be away/leave the group you are no longer being guided as part of our trek so any mistakes in navigations or accidents/incidents are of your own responsibility, not the responsibility of Tread Softley.

Each evening you guide will arrange with you what time the group will be starting the walk/picked up for the next day.

Your guide will make every effort to start at the previously advise time, however, clients should be aware that a situation may arise which could delay the pre-arranged start time.

Please note that the group may carry on without any belated trekkers who are 45 minutes late for the starting time. In which case it is the belated trekkers’s responsibility to get to the next stage of the trip in order to rejoin the group.

Your baggage will be treated with care while being transferred between accommodations.

We recommend you get adequate insurance in case of loss or damage to any of your personal belongings during your trek.
